Strange non-troubling IRQ allocation non-problem in W2k

The title says it all.

I have a non-problem.

I went into the Device Manager one day and looked up what IRQ's were being used for what devices. Why you say? No particular reason I say. I just felt like it. I don't have any problems with my computer. It runs perfectly. At least I thought it did.

WTF!!

irq11 Creative SB Live!
irq11 D-Link DFE-530TX PCI Fast Ethernet Adapter
irq11 Highpoint Technology Inc. HPT366 Ultra DMA 66 Controller
irq11 Highpoint Technology Inc. HPT366 Ultra DMA 66 Controller
irq11 Intel 82371AB/EB PCI to USB Universal Host Controller
irq11 ATI All-In-Wonder Radeon

Hmmmm, I've heard of IRQ sharing but this is a little rediculus!
I pondered the strangeness of this and did the only reasonable thing. I rebooted and looked at what the bios said. It is telling me that all of these devices have their own IRQ! (Both HPT366 are of course on the same IRQ) But if you continue the reboot, w2k changes the numbers to 11.

My non-question to this non-problem is this: Is W2K using some kind of logical IRQ addressing, or is it actually reallocating the IRQs in my system. (Keep in mind that I turned off the Plug and Play functionality and deliberately allocated different IRQs on one of my tests and the IRQs still went 11).

hardware:
P3-550E@770
ABit BE6
Generic 128MB PC100
ATI All-In-Wonder Radeon
SB Live w/digital I/O card (shoulda just got the Platinum)
D-Link NIC card
2 Maxtor 40Gig HDs (striped)
1 Maxtor 27Gig HD

It's called ACPI and it's the way Win2K handles the IRQ's. Do a search, it's been beat to death many times over on this and other forums.

ddiccico!

That was a very good link! Very Informative. Thanks everyone for the input, I always thought that ACPI was more for power saving functions rather than IRQ allocation. Live and Learn!

Thanks again for helping out with my Non-Problem! :D
