Strange noises in FEAR

Whenever I play FEAR or FEAR expansion pack, there are a ton of scratching noises....

It only makes the noise when there is noise in the game. I can still hear all the normal sounds, but it makes a very loud scratching sound as well which gets VERY annoying. I own both games, however I applied no-cds just so I dont have to put in the CD. I have all the updates, and it works fine, other than the noise....any ideas what might be wrong?

I doubt this is what's happening, but right before my sound card went dead it did this. But it was with anything producing noise, not just one program.

Yeah, other games work fine w/o any weird sounds....it's really only FEAR that does it. I would much prefer not to have to re-install it...but I'm not sure what else I can do

Update your motherboard BIOS, chipset drivers and sound card drivers. Also patch the game to the latest version.

I had the same problem when I installed FEAR. There was a windows sound package somewhere in the FEAR Folder. I installed that and everything was fine. I dont remember what it was called, but I know there is a patch (or something) in the FEAR directory that fixed it for me. Good luck. I know how f'in annoying it is!

Try turning off EAX/Sound Hardware Acceleration in the options before anything else.
