i have just changed to a p3 933 eb flip.

everything is cool but i now notice that i get sporadic noises coming from within the tower.

i can hear the very quiet atx case fan but every 5 seconds i get this harsh grinding noise, as if the hard disk is screwed.

thing is it`s not the HD and it is getting very bugging.

it`s as if some internal fan either on my matrox g400 or my p3 933 cos it`s not the case fan.

would this be right and should it be spinning fast then slow ? i doubt it but then that is why i ask the experts here.

thanks guys. and can u recommend a great fan if this is the problem.

Take off the cover so you can pinpoint the source of the problem. I had the same thing, I really harsh noise, turns out it was my heatsink fan.

Ya, sounds like a fan is in its final stages of death.
I had one on an Athlon classic that was doing it. Every few seconds it would make a weird 'whirring' noise and the go away till one day it just constantly made that noise.
I yanked it out, shot to make sure it was dead, and threw in a new one.

No more bad sounds. :)

It could either be a power cable or something that is haning around in one of your fans, or the power supply could be getting a little old..

Cheers..

I'll go with the it's probably a fan bearing going bad. The only way to tell for sure of course is to open it open and try and locate the source of the noise.

The fans on your processor or video card should not be changing speed, it they are they should be replaced. I should qualify that by saying there are some tempature controlled fans that will change speed, but that is a very slow cycle and should not be noticable in a very short amount of time.

good source for fans
