Strange network problem, Unidentified network

Hi guys,

Having some trouble connecting to my wired network at my new staff dormitory.

I am using my Windows 7 Laptop.
My ethernet port works fine with other networks.

I say strange because in the past (a year ago) I could connect fine with the same laptop and OS install but it suddenly stopped working for me only.

Now I have returned to the dorms, the problem remains.

When I connect the cable I get lights and the notification
Identifying network

after around a minute I get
Unidentified network
No internet access

Looking at ipconfig it seems I'm not being assigned an IP and no gateway is listed (dhcp is enabled).

I thought it might be something like my adapters MAC address had been banned for downloading last year so I tried spoofing my MAC address which changed nothing.

I'm not going to pretend to know a lot a lot about networking but I can handle basics from individual experience however in this case I've no idea what to try next!

I tried a cheap USB ethernet adapter which failed completely (no lights, thinks no cable connected) but that could be the cheapo adapter.

I've tried a different cable which changed nothing.
(Both are straight cables but these days switching isn't a problem is it)

Does any one have means to discover the problem?
I'm absolutely stumped. I would appreciate any help so much!!
Please help!

Had you connected to this same SSID at some previous time? Could the password of the SSID changed since the last time connected?
