Strange Montor problem.

If I move my monitor's vga cord around, there is a purple'ish discoloration on my monitor. I've had this problem for a couple of years now (old viewsonic 17gs) but never bothered trying to fix it since it is an easy fix (all i have to do is kick my cord around a bit). I'm assuming the problem is due to a faulty cord. Does anyone or has anyone ever had this problem before? It's not too big of a deal, since it is an easy temp-fix, but it's just damn annoying!
