I'll try to explain this as best I can.
After buying a new dell 2.5ghz w/ a Radeon 9700 tx I hooked it up to my 4 year old 17" dell monitor (i forget the model number, but it came with the old xps t series...m70 maybe?). Then I started noticing a sort of "wavy line" effect on dark colored areas (WinXP login screen, dark gray areas). The only other way I can describe it is a a bunch of slightly dark bands moving up or down the screen. And the weird thing is, it is not constant. It happens randomly then lasts for a long time. I never had this problem before with my old 64mb VIVO.
I tend to notice everything when it comes to video and sound so this really bothers me. By the way, I've tried many different resolutions and refresh rates and they all produce the same effect. So do you think maybe my video card is just too good for my old monitor or something?
