Strange monitor input issue

I picked up one of these bad boys the other day http://www.anandtech.com/show/3754/a-new-30-contender-hp-zr30w-review
But im having issue connecting my camera dvr to it, it only outputs in hdmi, so i used an hdmi to dvi cable but the monitor doesn't pick it up. Then i used an hdmi to display port cable and it still doesn't pick it up.
Both of the dvi and dp ports on the monitor work but for some reason it doesn't like the signal from the dvr, any ideas?
 
Well, you can't go from HDMI to DP, only the other way round.

But the HDMI to DVI, most likely should have worked, if the device sending output supported DVI signaling.

Hdmi to dvi works on my secondary monitor, but not on this hp monitor, definitely think its lack of inputs has something to do with it.
