Strange Issues After XP Reinstall

After a fresh install of Windows XP Pro, with all updates, I get strange problems. No single process may go above 50% CPU, even if it normally would use 100%, and windows uses enourmous amounts of memory. For example, when I run Battlefield 1942, it may only be comsuming 300MB of RAM, but the task manager shows that Windows is using 1.5GB of virtual memory, and almost all of my physical memory. If I check the process list, all I have running besides BF1942 is the standard Windows processes, with less than 400MB of RAM in use all together. I tried installing XP SP2 build 2144 thinking it was a kernel issue of some sort but this hasn't fixed a thing. The system also has a clean bill of health from NAV 2004, and is fully defragmented. I tried reinstalling again to no avail. Please help!

Thanks,
Scott

Fresh after an XP reinstall? I don't think so. After further testing, if I disable HT the CPU usage problem is solved. I want HT though, as I used to have it!

Pardon my stupidity, but it looks as though the 50% part was normal. I read on some MS newsgroups that that is how it is supposed to show up. I guess I was wrong about how it used to look. As far as the virtual memory issue is concerned, after tweaking my vm settings and installing a SP2 hotifx (I reloaded XP SP1), it seems to be working fine.
