Strange IP conflict problem

Ok i have a network setup that goes like this: I have 2 pcs, and a netgear hub. I connect the 2 pcs to the hub. I also have a sbc dsl modem, and i also connect the ethernet cable to hub (instead of directly to the ethernet card on teh pc). This way, i get a connection on both computer...its worked for over a year. Recently i got a new computer. I sold my old one and hooked up my new comp to the network setup. It worked...for about 2 days. I unplugged the cables yesterday to switch the places of teh two computers. When i reconnected the cables, i got the ip address conflict problem. Ive done the config /release/renew command, i've tried manually entering in ips (192.168.1.xxx). When i renew the ip it says the ip assigned by the dhpc server conflicts with another ip. I cant automatcally assign ips either b/c they assign the same ips. Whats weird was it was working jsut a couple of days before. I have no idea what to do. Maybe im doing something wrong when i try manually entering it?

Edit: btw, my dsl works fine when i plug it directly into one pc.

Don't you have to have a router to share the internet connection? Something that does NAT so that you can use your non-public IP's on the inside and route the internet traffic out through the same IP? I know my terminology is probobly really goofy. I just don't understand how that would work if you were using a hub? Unless your ISP gave you more than one IP address?

It works with a hub, ionno why. I think its cuz my modem also acts as a router or something like taht.

Most DSL modems I have seen are routers.

Try resetting the modem to reset the leases.
Also, what IP addresses is the modem giving your computers?

192.168.1.64: thats the ip for the computer im on right now. Apparently, the other computer is assigned the same ip. I manually changed the ip for the other comp to 192.168.1.63, but the dsl only works for teh computer where the option is set to "automatically obtain ip address"

sry for double posting, but i forgot to mention that i have two network cards on one computer . I used the other card, restarted my modem and computers, and when i turned it back on, it was fine. thnx a lot for ur help.

The speedstream 5100b hands out 1 DHCP lease, but there's a way to trick it to make it work.
