I am posting this for my friend (although I had the exact same problem a few weeks ago).
I'll start with my problem and solution. I could connect to Spark Instant Messenger for my work, and AIM and WoW worked fine, but no matter which web browser I used, I would go back and forth through very slow browsing and loading 1 page out of every couple of refreshes, to sometimes not being able to get to any site at all. After trouble shooting with my boss (he's the IT manager and I'm under him and not nearly experienced), he said he thought it was a DNS issue (I think, remember, this was a few weeks ago). So I tried to do an ipconfig /release-flushdns-renew and it didnt work. I then decided to reset my router (hard reset on the back through teh pin hole), but for some reason it wouldn't. I then decided to connect my modem to my computer directly and avoid the router, and boom, my internet has worked perfect since.
My friend is having the exact same problem, but unlike me who lives in a house, he lives in an apartment building. The 16 port switch does happen to be in his room, but his room mate's internet is fine, and we've tried multiple ports on teh switch for his, same result with them all, so I'm thinking it must be a software/configuration problem of some sort. I wouldn't think he has a virus since he uses Trend Micro, and even if he did I would think all of his internet activity would be blocked. The ipconfig cmd's didn't work, and I didn't notice any service that was disabled in the services.msc screen. His drivers are also up to date.
Does anyone know what is going on with his computer and how to fix it? Any and all help is appreciated, thanks!
