Hey guys, I recently upgraded the network in the office and everything runs fine, except for one system. Which I'm not sure if it's wiring related "don't see how it would be" but who knows or it's just some MS flaky crap..
Anyway, let me give you a little background info so you can possibly suggest some additional troubleshooting.
The original wiring pin configuration on 2 cables were not using a known-standard, so I cut the ends off and rewired them to a 568B standard. Everything seems to work fine now, network speeds are quick and other than the problem I'm about to list below everything seems normal.
Ok, so now to the problem at hand. On this 1 system I can not access email or a fair number of webpages. If I set up an email acct in outlook and/or outlook express it just hangs on trying to query the mail server at the isp and then eventually times out. I've tried setting up different mail accounts that use one of our other isps at the other office and it does the same thing. So basically, no matter which pop/mail servers I use for whatever isp/hosting company I can not check email through there. I also can't access a large number of webpages directly, as in.. if I type in the url directly into the address bar ie. (www.i-55.com) then it just hangs and times out. However, if I go to google and search for the webpage and click the link through google, it'll pull it right up. Another wierd quirk, if I type our webmail url directly into the browser then it pops right up (webmail.i-55.com). It's so strange that I'm at a lost as to what could be causing it?
Perhaps something in the internet options security settings? Cookies? I had limited time to check it out yesterday so I haven't devoted much attention to it. Keep in mind, it's not just the url that I stated above, it's probably 80% of the websites I visit that are causing the same sort of problem. There aren't any viruses on the system and there haven't been any since this system has been installed.
All the other systems in the office work fine at checking mail and surfing, etc. Network speeds between the systems are pretty quick considering it's a 100mbit setup, downloads from the problem pc through me testing the speeds from downloading apps at download.com are maxing out the dsl line, so I don't think it's anything to do with the wiring, but I dunno.
Sorry for the long post, any suggestions?
