Strange IE/Windows XP Problem

Here is what is happening. If I launch IE "normally" web pages have a strange look to them. The type looks a bit rough and some pages don't view correctly. For example, in Google maps, icons on the maps turn to little black boxes.

However, if I open up a folder, the type the URL in the address bar, the web sites appear correctly.

I have tried cleaning out temp directories and cache files with no luck.

Has anyone come across this before and have a solution? FireFox works properly and is my preferred browser, however this isn't my machine and the person that owns it wants to stick with IE.

do you have this in your registry? and what value is it? (0 or 1?)

HKEY_CURRENT_ USER\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\INTERNET EXPLORER\MAIN\USEHR

Just a follow up...

HN, the machine did have that reg entry set to 1. I set it to 0 and set the display DPI to 120 and all is well.

Thanks for the help.

Seems dell is still cranking out machines with this "feature" on.
