Strange IE Problem: No Images

Using Windows XP Pro. Out of nowhere and I mean seriously out of the blue IE has basically stopeed loading Images or Ads. Now it isn't all ads or all images. It's as if it chooses them. For instance the 468x60 banner that sits atop the the forum page will not load. I get an Action Canceled graphic. However the tiny Mushkin enhanced ad on the top right loads just fine. It's almost as if IE won't connect to images or content that is hosted on ad servers.

Thus far I have tried the following :

1. Logging in as adminsitrator.
2. Turning off zone alarm.
3. Turning off Norton anti-virus 2003.
4. Deleting temp and cache.

The last program I can recall installing installing was Kazaa Lite 2.0 with all the ad ons.

I'm wondering if the ad-blocking software that is a part of the ad ons has something to do with it. I have uninstalled 2.0 but still no luck. Any chance there could be a dll or some other file causing the problem?

Thanks.

For what it's worth, with respect to the 468x60 ads at the top of the page, the Crucial one displays just fine, however the Real Ad which comes from here: http://network.realmedia.com/RealMedia/ads/adstream_sx.ads/anandtech/ros/ron/tch/ss/a@Position1?

will not load. i get the following message when right clicking on the ad spot and choosing properties: res://C:\WINDOWS\System32\shdoclc.dll/navcancl.htm#http://network.realmedia.com/RealMedia/ads/adstream_sx.ads/anandtech/ros/ron/tch/ss/a@Position1?

C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc folder & delete the hosts file.

thanks. late last night I looked at the install log noticed it installed the host file. I went into it with notepad, edited it, and presto everything is golden.

what exactly is the purpose of the host file?

It is the first place your PC looks to resolve names to IP's...
and many people configure known ads to 127.0.0.1 which is the loopback address of your nic... so it will never give you the ad.

Result = Blank pics instead of ads :)
