Strange IDE problem

It seems that this all happened after I was fooling around with different video card drivers. When I now try to boot up, the computer will freeze at the point where it will be detecting the IDE devices. The CPU will be found, the memeory check out, then it will freeze. IF I have no IDE devices plugged in, it finds no IDE devices and proceeds fine. I have got it to boot up a few times, and when it does get to windows xp it runs fine. I tried reformatiing but whenever I get to installing XP, it freezes.

It also seems that if I just have my CD burner pluggd in, it will not freeze, maybe freezing 10% of the time. I have tried 2 hard drives with them working fine in one computer, and not working in the broken one. I have tried my CD drive and HD drive in all the positons on the IDE cables, primary master, secondary slave etc with no avail. To me this seems like something is not working with the Mobo. Any other ideas?

Try setting everything cable select, and then put in one drive at a time.

Do this until it freezes, and then u'll know wich drive is bbad.

I had a similar problem awhile back, and it was due to a bad firmware flash on my DVD burner.
