Strange HP Printer Problem.

Just installed my printer in Win 2k (Haven't used it in a long time.).. When I print however, my "Red" is a very dark shade of red, instead of the "pure" red like it should be. Its almost like Windows is trying to print a shade of red instead of just using the pure red. I am using the default Windows 2k driver for the printer, and no changes seem to make any difference. I even turned off all color management but that did not seem to help.

Anyone got any ideas?

If you haven't used your printer in a long time, the ink may be getting a bit old and solid in the cartridge. Try using another cartridge and see if that makes a difference.

When you install the original HP drivers, they load a printer ToolBox program (it has an icon that looks like a little DeskJet Printer); it is usually saved in C:\Windows.

This toolbox includes a command to align the printer head, and clean the cartridges. In the process it will print a sample paper of all the colors.

If a certain color is drained you will be able to id it.
