Strange HD3850 Behavior

I got a Diamond Radeon HD3850 a few months back. Over all, it's been a great card. However, lately I've been having strange issues with certain games.

It started when I tried playing Titan Quest. After I changed the resolution in game, my system froze. I restarted my computer and tried running the game again. This time, I got a blocky black line that cut through the screen diagonally, and a couple of small black blocks randomly in other places. It ran like that through the opening logos and then when it got to the game menu (and had to start rendering in 3D) it would go for a few seconds, and then everything would freeze again. I tried setting fan speeds to maximum, reinstalling the game and updating my drivers, but the problem remained the same. So, I gave up on it. It was the only game of dozens that I had played with this card to have any issues like this.

But yesterday, the problem came up again. This time, though, I was playing Jade Empire. I had noticed the game was stuttery, so I opened FRAPS and checked my framerate. 60+ no matter what I did, but everything was still stuttery. I changed the FPS clamp settings (The default settings restrict FPS to 30) and the "ImmediatePresent" setting (which I presume is V-Sync). After experimenting with different combinations of settings, even turning different eye candy on and off, the problem stayed. Then on one of the test runs, the same problem I had with Titan Quest reared its ugly head. Now the game freezes as soon as it's supposed to start 3D rendering. I reinstalled the game, checked my drivers, left my computer off for an hour and I always have my video card fan up to maximum.

I'm normally pretty apt at deciphering mystery issues like this, but I'm stumped. Is this simply an issue of a bad card? And if so, why does it seemingly pick and choose which games have this problem? No other games have this issue, even if I start one up right after a reboot from this issue.

Any help with this would be much appreciated.

I doubt it's a power supply issue. I deliberately went overboard with my PSU just to avoid such issues. And I only have 1 PCI-Express slot.

I guess I should have posted my specs initially.

ASRock 4CoreDual-SATA2
Intel E4500 at stock speeds and voltages
2GB of G.Skill DDR2-800
Diamond Radeon HD3850 512MB

I'm thinking my motherboard may to be blame, though. The features it has aren't exactly within the realm of normal combinations. I had to get an update for my BIOS specifically for Radeon 3000 Series cards, actually.
