So I finally got around to upgrade me old computer. Ordered some Epox 8rda+ AMD xp2400 and a couple of 256 dims, also a Maxtor 80G with 8Mb cache.
I dropped it all in my tower and hooked the Maxtor as master on ide0 and added an old seagate 20gig as slave. (I know, the seagate will slow it down.)
Next I installed win2000 on the Maxtor, no problems although it took a surprisingly long time.
But after logging in to windows the Maxtor seems to do noting for about 15 seconds, then work for a fraction of a second and then sleep again. So when opening for instance explorer nothing happens for about 15 seconds, then klick and all appears. And since Windows is installed on the Maxtor most of the time nothing works at all. The Seagate seems to work fine though.
Also surpising is that the Maxtor where called F: although it?s clearly on primary master according to BIOS.
If I remove the Seagate the Maxtor works fine.
Can anyone explain this?
