Strange hard drive issues

Hi all, I have a weird problem with my hard drives...

Originally my hard drives were detected fine and fully usable. Now though, for some very strange reason, I can see my hard drives, install, copy, or whatever I want with them. there are no issues there. Speed fan though suddently stopped detecting all of my hard drives and can no longer read the SMART data or even see them.

I also play WoW and use a program called UI central to manage my add-ons. Some of the addons are detected and I can read the names of them, some aren't. The ones that don't have visible names can be removed by the program but not updated. Nor can I receive information on the plugins that aren't visible. (They do have a placeholder just no name or information is listed).

The drives are detected by my raid manager. I have a DFI motherboard (based on the NF 590 SLI chipset) with a pair of seagate 7200 RPM perpendicular drives in a raid 0 and a 74 gb raptor for my OS...also in a RAID 0, though all by itself (I had to do this to get the drive detectable for the windows install and to have the other 2 drives visible).

Both of the problems occured simultaniously and started a while after the build. Nothing that I can remember was changed to cause them.

I have tried driver updates, restarts, fully updating windows, none of it fixes the problem.

Thanks!

Start by running a full Check-disk including "scan for & attempt recovery of bad sectors" but don't check the box for "repair file system errors automatically" so you can see if it finds bad sectors on the disk ... if it does theres a good chance your drive(s) are failing & you should back up your data asap, then RMA.

I tried that and it worked on my 2 new drives in the stripe, the perp drives. My older (probably a year, year and a half old) raptor wouldn't even pass the first phase of the test. My drive going bad?

The disks read as totally healthy during bootup and according to the raid manager.

*edit* All that chkdsk says is "Windows was unable to complete the disk check."

Well, one more comment to solidify that you guys are right...

Trying to run the WD Diagnostics tool causes an instant crash and restart of the computer. Guess I get to RMA my raptor!
