strange hang-up during post

MB: Gigabyte GB k8vt800m Rev: 1.0
Bios: F5 (latest one)

VGA: ATI AIW 9600
Kingston Memory model: KVR333X72C25/1G (x2) (Two 1GB sticks approved for this board)
CPU: Athlon 64 3400+
Power supply: Antec TruePower 380Watt ATX12V (comes with Antec Sonata quiet case)

Problem:
My computer begins acting up, crashing programs, stalling for short periods of time, etc. Then when I reboot, it won't finish the bios post. It freezes right at the memory test... every time. I can tell because it doesn't complete the line of text on the screen like this: "Press [ESC] to skip memor". (This screen is the very first thing you see when booting)

The first time this happened, I removed the memory, vacuumed all of the dust out from the inside of the case, replaced the memory, and the computer worked fine for a few weeks.

I have tried it with one memory stick in each slot, and every other combination with the two sticks of memory and the two slots. Note that my memory is certified by Gigabyte and Kingston to work with my motherboard. Also, heat is not the issue, as I have let it cool completely off for an hour then tried to start it up again, only to have it freeze on memory test over and over. This is pretty wierd. Has anyone else ever experienced this? I built this computer in Jan and have had no problems until this.

Thanks a ton if you have any ideas or insight 🙂

I assume all the memory configurations you tried worked OK?? I would check your Bios settings for the memory to see if it is set for an over-aggressive setting. I believe that MB had several options for perfomance. Try it set at the normal settings rather than the high performance settings. And some motherboards just don't like 2 stick or running at the max memory. Give things a good test with just one stick.

Good luck.
