Strange fricken thing in Windows 2000

When I do a cold boot of windows on my sony laptop (dual boot 98 and 2000) the system will boot fine and as the bar gets close and closer to the right (windows 2000 image is being shown) all of a sudden the system will go into standby mode immediately and windows hasn't even booted yet! When I go to turn on the computer it freezes from turning on! I don't know what to do to fix this error, please help!

Can you boot into SAFE MODE in either OS?

yea I mean it goes away after I do a restart and I don't think it happens on windows 98. I did install sp4 for windows 2000 and I will see how it goes.
