I don't even know if its faded or what the problem is, but I saw my monitor suddenly switch to this kind of faint dimmer color.

I've messed with the brightness/contrast and color settings on the monitor but nothing worked. Now the brightness/contrast settings are locked?

When I was watching a movie, I could have sworn it kept fading more and more..

if you have any ideas pls let me kno I've tried everything but don't know what is going on!!

monitor is a samsung 226BW (22" widescreen) and i have tried installing drivers :(

EDIT: btw my ps3 looks fine when I plug it into my monitor

If otehr sources look right then the problem is with your video card. If you have another computer around check it on them. If it looks fine on the others then you may need to replace the video card. If not then the backlight on the monitor my be going out.

Are the brightness/contrast settings locked on the actual monitor or through whatever video drivers you're using? First thing I would consider is uninstalling/cleaning/reinstalling the drivers and seeing if that fixes anything.

It's locked on my monitor now. When this first happened I could manipulate the settings (did not fix my problem) and now it says "Not available" when I try to change the color settings (the other options work fine)

Like i said, the ps3 looks perfect when I play it on the monitor--so maybe it is coming from windows?--or my video card? I've installed newest drivers for both.

I've been trying all day to fix this and I can't find anyone that has had a problem like it

its the monitor, i don't think your video card could lock any video settings.

n/m hm your ps3 works, maybe its the connector.

Well what makes no sense to me is that the monitor usually operates off a sort of firmware, where the settings of the monitor itself are contained in the monitor, and then there's more settings once your system is up and running, the video drivers allow you to tweak settings from the PC end that combine with the monitor end settings, giving you the end result. In any case, reinstall the drivers and see what you can get.
