I have had difficulty with a game installation(Flight Simulator X but it could have been any software presumably). It was a 2 DVD disk set and the install was the conventional disk1 followed by disk2 when requested. However when I put disk2 in, it continuously kept asking for disk2 and when I tried to remove disk2 the drive would not open. Had to abort the install. Tried in my second DVD drivewith exactly the same result. Being a mere mortal, I assumed that disk2 was faulty and returned software for a replacement. Had the same problem so realised that the s/ware was OK and the problem lay with my pc.
Read on avsim website that this problem was being experienced by a few others and read that if the 2 disks were copied to a temp folder on the HDD, the install could be done from there. Ok so copied disk1 to the temp folder but when I came to copy disk2, I saw that the disk contents were exactly the same as disk1! Rt clicked explore rather than open and voila, disk2 was now read correctly and the contents could be copied to the HDD. The installation went fine from this point.
So somehow I assume that when I put in disk2 during the original conventional install, the disk2 could well have appeared to still be disk1. Is this feasible and is there something I need to do to avoid this happening in the future?
The 1st disk drive is a NEC DVD RW ND-3540A and the other is an AOPEN DVD 1648/AAP PRO. Neither has been a problem before.
