Strange DNS situation

I have five PCs networked at home using ICS on a dialup connection. I noticed on client PC some sites and banners and a few other things could not be displayed, this did not effect the gateway PC. I checked all settings, nothing had changed. Ran WINIPCFG on gateway and found a different primary and secondary DNS IP address than before. Changed the DNS address on client PCs and all was OK.

Later, out of curiosity I changed the DNS address back on one client PC and had no problem with the internet. Right now I can use either pair of DNS addresses and works ok.

My question is, Why is this happening and is there something I should know about my ISP?

Sounds like you have your ISP configuring what you use for your DNS servers. This would explain why they are different from time-to-time. You can also change the DNS server to a previous IP and depending on the network topology still have DNS function correctly.

As far as DNS not working in the case you mentioned. That could have been a server or connection problem on their end that affected the server you were assigned to.
