Strange Cursor problem in Linux.. driving me crazy - Any ideas?

I get a strange . in the middle of my cursor.. it moves with it as you
type, there is always that . there.. its driving me INSANE! Anyone know
why its there? I just reinstalled Mandrake 9.1 and it appeared, it wasn't
on my previous Mandrake install.. but its so irritating! heh

I would guess that it has something to with using the console frame buffer, but I'm not certain. Personally, I always compile a new kernel and disable that kind of junk early on. Who needs to deal with this kind of silly crap in the console? Anyway, perhaps passing "console=vga" to the boot process would disable the frame buffer and use standard vga.
