Strange Crashes HELP

OK on and off my system has been having this weired crash. I'll leave it alone for a while and when i come back the screen has thiis strange pattern on it and i have to reboot. Then it runs ok for a while and does it again. Anyone have any suggestions i hvae a xp 2000+ Asus 333 mobo 782meg memory and a gainward geforce 4 ti4200. Thanks!!!
 
Thescreen is a kind of strange paisly pattern block of color. The mouse is just a block of color but i can make it move around the screen.
 
sounds to me like your video card is on the way out. do you have another card you can try? i had something similar happen to my g4 ti4200 made by pny and it ended up being the card.
 
i had to RMA my video card 3 times before finally getting fed up and selling it on ebay. the cause of the issue with my pny was that they used cheap ram on the ti4200 line and thats what caused my issues. i bet you have the exact same issues i did, ill bank on it!
 
Gainward had some major problems with their Ti4200 cards and your syptoms are the classic symptoms of the problems they were having. I think the problem was bad caps. RMA
