Strange (continuous) beeping at power on. mobo dead?

Hi --

I have a MS-6178 motherboard system which has started giving a strange beeping on power on: long beep, pause, long beep, pause, etc.

This is *not* a standard documented beep code sequence: it never ends... Neither is it mentioned in the manual.

I removed all adapter cards and it still persisted. Assuming this to be a memory problem I then reseated the memory card, and this fixed the problem (though the CMOS battery needed replacing as well. Strange... Coincidence?).

After a week though the problem has returned, and this time reseating the memory card does *not* solve the problem. The memory card from this machine is currently running memtest86 in another machine and no problems are reported.

Should I assume the MB is dead? Anything else I could try?

Any thoughts?

Ian

Don't know about MSI beep codes but... I had a client with the same problem with an ASUS MB. Turned out to be the video card. The beeps turned out to be the motherboard's way of saying there was no video card detected. So try another video card (if you have one) and see if the problem goes away.
