Strange connector on gpu

Hi all! Can someone explain usage of this connector:

Those are crossfire connectors. The older AMD/ATI gpus had them, before they just did it over the PCIE lanes.
 
Yep. In case you don't know, CrossFire is AMDs solution for linking multiple GPUs for better performance. As @Shmee said, it's been done over the PCIe bus for a few generations now, so newer cards lack those connectors.
