I built a PC in February of this year. I am using a MSI nForce2 board and a QTEC labelled 550W (but really 400W) power supply. Now before you guys say anything about the PSU, its not that bad - it copes well with the main rig in my rigs below.
OK, so up until recently all was well. Last week I turned on my PC and it did briefly before turning off again. The green power light came on and within half a second gone again. I repeatedly pressed the power button to no avail. I got it working again by taking the plug out of the mains for a minute before plugging it back in.
Now this is happening everyday. The only time it turns on first time is when I have used it within the last hour or so. I have tried using another power cable, which didn't help. I am trying out the QTEC in my other PC and a spare 235W in this one, but this is taking sometime as you'd might expect with "cold boot" issues.
The parts are covered by warranty, but I need to know what to return. I'd take a guess that the power supply is playing up, but could it be the motherboard? Does anyone have any light they can shade on this?
