Here is a problem I'm having with a cd rom device in Win ME. I also had this when I did a fresh install of Win98SE.Windows does not recognize my cdrom only my burner. The cdrom does not appear in the device manager but I do get an exclamation alert for a secondary IDE controller. When I update the drivers for said secondary IDE controller device and use the instalation floppy for the cdrom. It accepts this and the cdrom now appears in the device manager and also the exclamation alert is gone on "secondary IDE controller. Everything appears hunky dory.......untill I reboot. Then the system reverts to the way it was before- the cdrom no longer appears in DM and exclamation point is back. When I go to driver details its says that the device is either not there or drivers not correctly loaded and it also say code 10.
As I mentioned before, the same thing happened in win98SE but after installing drivers , it would not revert back after a re-boot.
Any idea why this is happening or how to correct it?
