Strange bsod errors on win xp

I just ran into one of the strangest computer issues I have ever experienced and I am lost on ideas. I have searched online and found some other people saying they had similar problems but no solutions.

The computer is a toshiba satellite a65-s126. Upon attempting to boot it gets a bsod with
stop: 0x00000050 ntfs.sys. I tried to boot into safe mode and would get the same error.
I noticed that the last file it was attempting to load was atisgkaf.sys (ati driver) each time.
Since I couldn't get anywhere with this I tried booting into BART PE (http://www.nu2.nu/pebuilder/ if your not familiar with it, very handy tool). When booting into bart pe it nearly finished loading then got a bsod Stop 0x000000E3 RESOURCE_NOT_OWNED?. I found this really strange and attempted booting to a windows xp sp2 install cd. When it got to the select R for recovery consol or enter to install upon hitting any key would bsod again.

Since these were on cds it led me to believe that the memory was bad. So i used a gentoo live cd and ran memtest86 which passed no problems.

I updated the bios to the latest version to see if that would help. (the bios is one of the poorest I have ever used, very few options and no system diagnosis information like cpu temp though it felt relatively cool to the touch for a laptop).

From the linux live cd I was able to also mount the hard drive and everything seemed fine directory wise. Unfortunately I am not as familiar with linux as I would like so don't know of any chkdsk or scandisk type utilities to use from linux.

Any suggestions would be apreciated.

Hi,
If you can use Recovery Console from win xp, then you should be able to disable the loading of the ATI drivers/services.
Can you get into RC?

No unfortunately the recovery consol from the xp install disk has a bsod as well. Since both safemode and booting from cds (bart pe and windows xp install, but not linux live cds) crash i doubt it is related to the ati drivers as well. I would suspect a virus (expecialy since only crashing on windows based boots not the linux live disk) but I have never heard of a virus which would effect booting from cds as well.

Recovery console crashes????

Can you list your hardware please.
Also, it might be worth running MEMTEST overnite just to rule out RAM problems.

yes recovery console crashes. that is what makes this so strange and I can't figure it out.

it is a toshiba satellite a65-s126 which has a
2.8 GHz Celeron.
ATI mobility Radeon 7000 IGP
448 megs ram (shown during post, most likely 512 with 64 used for video)
I couldn't find any details on the chipset or other parts used.
