strange box left drawn on desktop

Hi,

i've been experiencing a strange box that usually occupies 90% of my desktop
after playing some games, and is accompanied by a folder in the taskbar. this doesn't happen every time i use an application or game, but as far as i can remember it's after half-life which uses openGL.

anyone know what this is or an idea to fix it? if not, then i know it must be specific to the gaming application. maybe bad programming that leaves an area drawn wrong?

here is a link to a screenshot:

I have process explorer installed, and i know how to use event viewer too,
but I have no idea how to troubleshoot this. The taskbar folder seems to be part of windows, because it goes away by killing explorer and then restarting explorer.exe).

thx.

well.. im using 45.23 which are about two years old at least, because they offer better perf then upgrading from what i have read.

...but they're buggy, which is why nVidia's at 71.something (or higher) now. Try the newest drivers. You've got XP, so rolling back to prior versions is dead simple.
