Strange artifacting with 5870

I am getting white dots on textures in L4D2 with a 5870 and I am trying to find out if this is a problem that all 5870 users are experiening. So far I have found another 5870 user with the same issue but he has an ASUS card, same make as me. I'm wondering if this is a problem limited to ASUS cards or all 5870 models. If it's the former then I think this may be a BIOS issue.

The snow-like dots are similar to what'd you see with bad memory, however, they flicker and stay in place unless you move in game. Also, they aren't the usual analising artifacts you sometimes see on the edges of objects when looking at them from a sharp angle. Depending on the angle, these dots will show up even in the middle of a completely flat texture. Other observations:

The dots only appear when 4XMSAA or higher is enabled on any resolution

Under supersample AA mode the dots do not appear regardless of what AA setting is used.

While visible throughout, the dots are most noticeable in the kitchen scene on the last campaign, first map. You need to have the flashlight off to see them. Oddly enough this is not a demanding part of the level & my FPS is very high there (100+).

Downclocking below stock speeds does not allievete the issue, in fact, the dots appear in the exact same place.

These points lead me to believe it is a driver/BIOS issue rather than hardware. In all other applications my 5870 is working perfectly and I have ran bechmarks programs like OCCT and Furmark without issue.

Any ideas? I've just resorted to using supersample AA (actually like it better) but I wish I could determine the root cause of this. I have tried dozens of other games, L4D2 is the only one that displays these problems. The same issue does not occur with my old GTX275 so it is definitely the video card. I am reluctant to RMA as I have a strong feeling this is not a hardware issue and the replacement will have the same issue.

I have the ASUS Bios on my cards, and I've never had the problems you are describing with L4D2.

This is with 9.11 beta and 9.11 WHQL, the only two drivers which has ever actually allowed CF to actually work. If you aren't already, install either the 9.11 beta drivers or the 9.11 whql.

Thanks for checking. I have tried all currently available driver sets and experience the same issue. planning on getting a 5970 soon so I will find out for sure if it is a card issue or not. Seems like it is but very strange that only L4D2 would expose the defect, especially since it is one of the less demanding games out there.
