Strange and very troublesome HDD problem

HI

I have a 250gig Maxtor SATA HDD that i have install on my computer for about 2 months now.

I only use it to store anime and music.

Since yesterday, it has been giving me problems.

I will be watching anime or listening to music and and then suddenly the anime opr music freezes. I go into "My computer" and the HDD is missing.

I restart my comp and the computer says one of the HDD has to be scaned for consistenisty and it scans it and finishes and goes into windows and the HDD is back.

But then later when i am listening to music or watching anime it just freezes and dissappears again.

Is my HDD dieing?

What can i do to check for problems? or health of my HDD

did u aready run scandisk?

if it has no error's i would try... open up your case and switch the Maxtor HD's power cable with a different one, a faulty conector sometimes causess HDs to disappear randomly, usually on old systems however, worth a try.

I ran scan disk and it passed every phase fine.

I am going to switch the SATA cable now. hope that helps

does anyone else have any idea what this is?
