Well, as long as she doesn't break teh intarweb, it's all good...

(Proxy settings is a very good guess. Some kind of firewall setting (if any) might be another. I doubt it's anything to do with DNS, as AIM logs into a domain, not an ip.)

happened to a PC I was working on.

IE 6 wasn't working, but everything else were (Mozilla, AIM, Norton Update...)

Tried several things but the only one that worked at least for my case was using AdAware
Could be some spyware in your case as well
try it out

it's most likely that the dns server is down. Does she happen to use comcast? I've had many problems with comcast's dns server. try typing ip addresses.

well, ketteringo and all others who suggested the proxy server turned out to be right. now, let's all pray that i can finally erase the astaroth33 quote from my sig (i have a pre-existing date with her for this friday, but the second she imed me tonight asking me "hey, you're a computer whiz, right?" my heart sank🙁)

Search for LSPfix. She might have killed some adware that then broke her IE. Does Netscape or other browsers work OK? If so, then try the LSPfix thing.
