Strange 185.71 behaviour

Hi. Just installed the new nvidia win7 drivers for my 8800gts 320MB. For some reason I'm getting higher frames on DX10 than on DX9, know why?

😀
The improvement might be due to better drivers and may be the game is properly using dx 10 features which were supposed to reduce various overhead. Anyway what are the games that are showing the improvement.

far cry 2 especially has been showing worsend dx9 and improved dx10 frame rates, its strange. dx9 should always be the winner here

How? His card isn't DX10.1.

It could be that DX9 performance has gotten worse, or it could be that Windows 7 finally delivers on Vista?s failed promise that DX10 is faster than DX9.

Most of directx11's features are API changes and not hardware features, so if nvidia updated their drivers to dx11 then maybe it would show some performance boost for dx10.

1. nvidia cards include SOME DX10.1 features but not ALL, so they are not DX10.1 compliant. A DX10 game will poll the card for its features and then use whichever are available, rather then just asking if it is DX10 or 10.1 (the two use the same executeable
2. DX10 is more efficient than DX9, doing the exact same thing in DX10 is much more efficient, the reason why most DX10 modes are slower is because they DONT Do the same things, they do so much more in DX10, if your game does a little more in DX10 or the exact same, it will be faster in DX10 mode.
3. did DX9 performance get worse or did DX10 get better?
