Stranded in LA due to passport issues - how to get around?

I'll make a long story short about the passport- I had it in hand, sent it off via express mail(both ways) to get a visa, it was going to my brother's house(in MD) who was going to meet me in the airport(LAX) and we'd continue on to Australia for my brother's wedding. I had it sent to his house because I was in bush Alaska at the time- quicker to him than me. It didn't show up in time to his house and he had to leave MD for LAX without it. Now he's continued on, I missed my flight and am crashing at a friend of my brother's here in LA until I have my passport in hand. The visa is for Korea, which I am going to after australia. I already have my Australian ETA sorted. The Korean consulate processed my visa slowly and put an overnight mail envelope into a normal street corner mail drop box at 4:00PM on a Friday. Consequently, it didn't even get picked up until Monday, and not processed until Monday at 7PM. Or they could be lying, and didn't process my visa until Monday and mailed it then.

I've called the USPS to have it forwarded and it's now on it's way to LA. I'm in a suburb north of LA called 'Canyon Country', which is 40 miles north of LAX. I will need to get there on my own when my passport gets here, but I'm completely unfamiliar with the public transportation. My host is a busy busy businessman and mostly absent, he can't drop me off anywhere so it's up to me, doorstep to doorstep. I could call a taxi, but I'm also poor and will be poorer after paying the schedule change fees on an international flight. So I need to know how to get from a subdevelopment in Canyon Country, CA to LAX, hopefully nothing too complex and on the cheap. Ideas? I've got a day or so to wait before my passport arrives, anybody in the area want to hang out, or even give me a ride when the time comes?

Find a nice person from ATOT to give you a ride?

If I was in LA I'd be happy to give you a ride :p

There are airport buses that run from about the 14 and San Fernando Road. Another option is an airport shuttle (more expensive but definately less than a taxi)

Canyon Country is pretty far north, but you should be able to take the metrolink to Union Station then take the red line to the blue line to the green line which stops at LAX.

I believe there is a Metrolink in Palmdale/Santa Clarita (http://www.metrolinktrains.com...il.php?id=117&line=ant). Metrolink is different from the regular Metro just an FYI. It'd probably take the same amount of time, but it'd be alot more comfortable and no traffic.

if you're going to do THAT you may as well take the fly away bus from union station -> lax for 3 bucks

just take the supershuttle and save some time from taking all those trains.. it's like $25 and they'll drop you off at your terminal

Ok, there is a Metrolink only about a mile and a half from here. It's $7.50 to union station and then $3.00 from Union Station to LAX via the bus, right? Any other suggestions?

I've taken flyaway buses twice. They work quite well, and you save a ton of money on parking.

Just got my passport. Now I get to walk 1.6 miles with 100lbs of luggage to the metrolink station. Woot.
