I was stranded on Interstate 90 west in Buffalo for 12 hours overnight. What a bitch.
Here's some pictures I took in the morning when I woke up.

Another fun fact:

A truck in the adjacent lane had huge crates labeled "Unstable radioactive waste" :zombie;

What do you do for 12 hours in a car?

I remember I got stuck in traffic for two hours a couple years ago. Luckily, I smoked at the time, so I got out of my car, sat on the hood, and smoked half a pack.

Yeah, I did. I also fell asleep with the car running. I was like:

"Ahhh.....heat....."

3 hours later....

"AHHH! HEAT!!!!!!"

I burned up almost 1/8 of a tank. :(

I was in that area of NY mid September visting some friends who live in West Seneca area. Hard to imagine only two weeks later seeing 2ft of snow on the ground. lol Sounds like a pretty crappy night if you had to sleep in the car.

Wow, you were stuck on the thruway overnight? Man that has to suck. I'm in Brockport (30 mins west of Rochester) and it was snowing pretty hard but wasn't really accumulating. Looks like Buffalo got it all.

Sleep. I had my laptop on me, and I played some games unitl the battery died. Talked to some people on the phone, did a lot of shoveling, talked to people, helped people get un-stuck...it was pretty eventful.

that reminds me of the blizzard during the day before thanksgiving in 2001. i was supposed to drive home to nyc after my last class (SUNY Buffalo). but since i saw the snow coming i decided i should skip the class and start driving home. the snow didnt start until 1pm. by 3pm there was 6inches and 4pm there was almost a foot. i left around 4 and made it 5 miles onto the 290. got stuck in traffic for 6 hours and slept in the car the entire time. around 9, i had to pee really bad and found a niagara casino cup in the back seat. i didnt realize how much piss i had in me and i filled it to the rim and nearly spilt the entire thing in my car. around 10 i decided to call it a night and i was fortunate that i was near an exit the entire time. i drove home in the 3 feet of snow that fell and left early next morning. what an adventure!!!

I've been meaning to put together an emergency kit to keep in my trunk... things like road flares (useful for if you have an accident or need to start a fire), a whistle (for signalling), a flashlight w/ extra batteries, some bandages, ponchos, etc. My wife thinks I'm crazy, but I think I better get it done before winter. ;)

Living in arizona, I have no clue what snow looks like. The forecast high is 88 today, with thunderstorms forecast in the evening. High temperature yesterday was 87 I believe, and partly cloudy, a very nice day indeed.

Yeah...the pic around my car was where I had cleared some out already. The pic where it's past my knee is where it was untouched. To answer your question, it was about 2 - 2.5 feet.
