strained my back

over the weekend I strained my back while putting up a privacy fence. It now only seems to hurt after I've been sitting or laying down for a while, I'm guessing because the muscles get stiff and tighten up.

I really want to hop on the elliptical and exercise a little bit, but I'm not sure if I should. I got on for about 1 minutes yesterday to see what it would be like, and didn't notice any pain. Would I be using any of my back muscles if I were to use it for about 30 minutes? If so, should I wait a few days for my back to recover?

go to a chiropractor to get it adjusted... you might have tweaked it in a bad way when you injured it and a chiropractor can help untweak it and will help it recover/heal faster. you'd be using a LOT of your back muscles if you were to use an elliptical machine. the chiropractor should accurately tell you how long to wait before going back to work out based on what he finds (or doesn't find) wrong.
