Straight Up: How do I overclock my cpu/gpu???

Hey, okay, my computer is fixed now (had to take 256 mb of ram out, now I only have 256) but enough of that, the point of this post is I am tired of having my computer not be as fast as it could, I must be one of the only geforce 4 ti 4200 (leadtek winfast 128mb) owners that hasnt overclocked the card yet!

But, my cpu is only at 1207 mhz cause its a 1.2 ghz amd athlon.

Anyway, my 3dmark scores are like 7000ish, and thats just awful, so, I think its my cpu, but maybe not, how do I overclock that(there are 4 white switches on my motherboard that I can fiddle with, could that be it?)

and, what is the program, and where, to overclock nvidia cards???

What motherboard do you have? You might just need updated chipset drivers. Just don't fiddle with any jumpers/switches whose functions you don't know.😉

If you want to overclock your videocard, I'd recommend Rivatuner. It's on the left; you're not required to read Russian.🙂
 
First off, if you overclock solely for the reason of 3DMark, I will hurt you.

Now, back to the real issue, you can use rivatuner, powerstrip, coolbits, or others for overclocking nvidia cards. As for your CPU, change the FSB speed. It is probably the dip switches, but don't change them wihtout knowing what they really do. Check your mobo's manual.
 
I'm thinking that you are a bit new to overclocking; am I correct in saying that, Brackus?🙂

I'd suggest reading up on it a bit before overclocking too many things. The main concern when overclocking is increased heat, and you need to have adequate cooling to prevent damage to the hardware.

And for additional cooling, many people like SVC. There was a thread in Cases and Cooling listing good vendors, but it seems to have gone away; don't remember the thread title either.

You are aware that Anandtech has CPU/Processor Overclocking forum? I can assure you'll get tons of help there if you still need it.
