Straight through or crossover cable?

Just trying to get this straight in my mind once and for all.

Scenario:
A Cisco 1600 router and a Bay Networks 8 port hub. The #8 port on the hub is marked "link". A button beside the port is marked "normal" and "uplink". If I understand correctly I can connect the 10baseT port on the router to any port on the hub, including the #8 port if it is in "normal" mode, with a straight through cable. But, if I connect the hub to another hub or a switch, I can connect to any port on the hub, including #8 port if it is in "normal" mode, with a crossover cable. Also, I can connect to the #8 port on the hub with a straight through cable if the button is in the "uplink" mode.

If I'm mistaken, pleas straighten me out.

Use a crossover cable between the 1600 and the hub if you are going into a regular (not uplink) port. Use a straigh-thru cable if you are going into the uplink port.
