Which type of cable are you supposed to use and what will happen if you don't. Also, which type of cable do you use when connecting two hubs together and do you hook the uplink port of the full hub up to any open port (other than uplink) on new hub, or vise versa?

Thanks a billion

p.s. Spent half the afternoon tearing apart old network at work, ready to start tearing my own hair out

My cable modem will autodetect, so works with both crossover and normal. The only way to find out for yours is to read the manual or try it.

When linking hubs, connect a straight patch lead from an uplink port to a standard port.
Failing that, connect a crossover from a standard to a standard.

most cable modem and switch are auto detect...
so it doesn't really matter..

plug in one or the other to see if it works..

but check your manual
