1. I have a 533mhz FSB cpu (prescott 2.40A) 400DDR RAM and lets say adequate cooling, how much would a normal 533mhz(133*4) FSB motherboard with an intel chipset (845PE) be able to go? would it go past 166mhz and 200mhz?

2. If I used a 800mhz(200*4) FSB would I be able to overclock more, say till 266mhz FSB, with the same cpu?

You might be able to to do 200MHz, if you use lower multipliers, but 266 is out of the question. thats a 100% increase in FSB. Its going to be more like 166, or 180 maybe.

Sorry leper, but you can't change that multiplier. How far you can overclock depends a lot on luck with your processor. I think all 845pe motherboards were designed with 200mhz fsb in mind. You are locked into an 18x multiplier which means at 200mhz fsb you would have a 3.6ghz chip (18 x 200mhz). Get it, your cpu speed solely depends on what you set the fsb to since you can't change your multiplier. I'd make sure your memory is set to be synchronous (ie 1:1 ratio) and slowly raise your fsb ~10mhz at a time. In between boots, run superpi 32m or prime95 for a while to stress test. If either program errors then you may need to try a little higher Vcore. I wouldn't use more 110% of the default voltage (if default is 1.4V, don't go above 1.54V). Make sure to watch your temps as well with a utility from your motherboard manufacturer or something like MBM5 or smart guardian. I'm not sure how hot is TOO hot for a prescott, but check your temps at default while running prime95 and use that as a guide.

Good luck.
