Okay, I'll admit I'm not the biggest fan. I enjoy their music, not much else, but I always heard the song Plush in GTA: San Andreas and thought it was a Soundgarden song.

Does STP = Soundgarden = Pearl Jam? Or am I just a dumbass? The only way I figured out that this was the song and that it was by Stone Temple Pilots was because I had my music playing and the song came on. I feel like a n00b now.

They all came out of the same general music movement but I don't think there is any overlap in band members.

I thought Soundgarden had overlapping members?
With Vedder in Temple of the Dog and now with RATM in Audioslave, AFAIK no overlap between STP and Soundgarden or Pearl Jam.

You can look this stuff up at www.AllMusic.com

Sweet. I'm a huge music buff but I don't listen to this type of music much.

Some essentials:

Chris Cornell - Euphoria Morning
Soundgarden - Superunknown, Badmotorfinger
Temple of the Dog - Temple of the Dog
Pearl Jam - Ten

and good:

Stone Temple Pilots - Purple, Core
Live - Throwing Copper

...someone else should also suggest some Alice in Chains and Mudhoney, I don't have any of their CDs 🙁

Definetly Dirt and Facelift for AiC, but all their CDs are amazing.

Wow. You must be on something if you think STP sounds like Pearl Jam or Soundgarden . . ..

Btw, Velvet Revolver features the lead singer from STP and the rest of the band is Guns & Roses . . ..

All were good and now STP is crap--at least their last stuff was, and their current guy in velvet crapolver is cranking out more sh*t. Pearl jam is just feces now. Chris Cornell of SG is the only guy still making _music_ and not sh*t.

BTW... Scott Weiland was the lead singer for Stone Temple Pilots and is currently with Velvet Revolver... If you listen to them a while, Weiland has a pretty distinctive sound with a much broader range.

He's a little weird, but that's okay.

All Temple of the Dog songs were written by Chris Cornell (Soundgarden) Jeff Ament (Pearl Jam) and Stone Gossard (Pearl Jam). Eddie Vedder sang on a handful of the songs.

After Soundgarden split, Matt Cameron (drummer) joined Pearl Jam. Chris Cornell joined Audioslave.

At one point, Ben Shepard (Soundgarden's Bass Player) played guitar with Nirvana (prior to Bleach).

All the Seattle bands overlapped, but STP was an LA band and never did anything with the Seattle guys.

I am a big Cornell fan, but I must say that the Audioslave album was total crap!

Definitely. Out of the three mentioned, I think STP had the most range as far as music experiementation - but then again, I am a bit biased. 😉
