story of a net/autotrader/wrecked+stolen bmw m3 purchase

i actually read all of that... 😕

i think i remember reading a small part of this a long time ago... poor guy... no way i would do all that for an m3... i wouldn't even go out of state. did he ever get his money back?

What gets me is that he still bought it after he noticed all the wrong things happening. Anyone of 5 things he mentioned whould have had me running for the hills.

Sad to say... if i flew 3000 miles down there... id probably do the same thing. he was probably too excited... i would be too. but the carfax shouldve been a must. but then again... it was an e30 m3... i don't think id fly so far for one.

I have a little, and I mean a little, sympathy for this guy. How can such an "expert" miss so many huge signs that "thing just ain't right?" Perhaps its because I grew up near the South Bronx but many signs that the car is stolen should be readily apparent. Especially with such a shoddy coverup job.

For the most part, people are trusting. Problem is, as New Yorkers, we know there are people out there trying to screw us. Many think such people don't exist...

Wow, that's an awful story. But first things first:

Why would you EVER buy a car from another state without getting a carfax report on it? It cost like $10

There are so many things he could have done better here. Among others, there's no excuse for him not test-driving an identical car locally, even if it was twice as expensive. How would he have known what to look for? Second, that title thing is total BS, you'd be stupid not to get a bill of sale if you hand someone cash for a car. Third.. well I'm not even going to get into it, but it sounds to me like the buyer did almost EVERYTHING wrong. What's amazing is that according to the story, he did everything wrong over a period of like 3 days?!? Somewhere in there he could have had the car taken to a shop, he could have done some more inspection of his own, etc.

I agree w/ others, the buyer went way overboard, had his heart set on an M3 and shut off his brain. We all make mistakes, he just made a bunch at once, mainly in trusting the seller... you never do that. Maybe if it's in writing, and even then... geeze. And carfax, c'mon... definitely should have got that BEFORE he bought the ticket to FL.

On the interesting side, apparently Montoya lives about 15mins from me (in city traffic) very close. I mightof seen that car on the road before.

read the first part and reading the 2nd part.

Man I feel sorry for this guy🙁

He did make some mistakes though but man he was RIPPED off 🙁

Hope this guy gets his money back but it doesnt' look good...........

🙁 for this guy

long story. whoa. long story. basically guy goes to FL to buy a car, doesn't do carfax, pays in cash, and finds mistakes in the car.. so now he's fighting back with detectives and lawyers and stuff.
