storing books in bankers boxes in basement-- anything to keep them from getting musty?

They're books. Nothing necessarry. Cedar might not be a BAD idea, but you may want to make sure there are some mothballs nearby.

Store them somewhere dry, dark with good air circulation.

You DO NOT want moist, humid, dusty, etc.
