Store return policy, advice wanted....

I got a Kodak LS443 digital camera for a graduation present. I really wanted a new graphics card, so I put the camera up for trade in the AT FS/FT forum. So anyways, I didn't get any takers for the card I wanted, or should I say givers (no one wants to part with their ATI 9800 pro...I wonder why??)

Someone suggested that I return it to a store such as Best Buy, Circuit City, Staples, Office Max, etc....

Well the only problem here is that I don't have the receipt. Since it was a present from my uncle, I don't want to ask him for the receipt, especially if he knew I wanted to trade it in for computer parts...he just wouldn't understand. So to avoid all this, I think returning it to a store would be my best bet. It goes for the same price as the card I want, and it is still sealed / unopened.

So what are my chances of success for an in-store trade without a receipt??

Experiences, suggestions, advice welcome!!!

You gotta have the reciept. Even with it being unopened, they still need some proof that you bought it and didn't steal it.

If you don't have a receipt, try the different stores in your area as it all depends on what Manager you end up dealing w/ , hope this helps 🙂

crap, thats what I was hoping NOT to hear, lol
I kind of figured that would be the case.....but just maybe there is a store that accepts them??

This is going to be a lot of work me thinks 🙂 Especially to find a store that has a 9800 instock but also sells the LS443. I have no idea where my uncle bought it, but maybe I can get it out of him without arrousing suspicions.

You need the receipt or the card it was charged on. If you don't have either i guess you're going to have to swallow the difference in price between the two after you sell the camera.

Some stores are nice enough to let you return stuff without a receipt. However, NOT a digital camera - too expensive an item. A pencil or pen or something cheap, yes. Something over $100+, no

Just go ask the manager of bestbuy, compusa, or circuit city.
I've done it before, you just have to go ask. If they say no, just leave.
Usually they will give you store credit.

Just sell it on egay if you didn't have any takers here.

Without a receipt you aren't going to be returning it to any store.
YMMV but they may give you store credit.
But a digi cam? Me thinks not.
Don't hurt to try though.

I've taken advantage of No Receipt <-> store credits before (best buy, target, circuit city) but, not on something big ticket. I think ebay is the best approach, might not get what it's worth, but the digicams seem to sell pretty close to 'salepriced' retail there.

Or keep the camera and start taking some cool pics with it. Buy a newer video card now for $100 or so that'll play all today's games just fine. Then you can always get the 9800 when it drops in price when the next new card comes out that's way overkill.

with experience working in retail ... no reciept = no refund/exchange/store credit

Just a side note:
What are you going to tell your uncle when he asks how the camera is working and asks to see pics from it?

Keep and use the digicam. At least it's not something impractical like a diamond-encrusted pen or a 5800FX.

I doubt you can make a no-receipt return. Stores are really hard-assed about that nowadays.
