I heard that if you store your razor(non-electric) in aclohol, it will make it last longer. Is this true?

Whenever people come up with wacky ideas like this, I always just ask: "How does storing it in alcohol make it last longer?"

razors get dull due to oxidation. Storing it in a medium that will prevent this will make the razor stay sharp.

Depends on what % of alcohol you get. You can get like 90% at the drug store.

i heard mineral oil does the trick
prevents calcium from building up on the blade

yeh you need something like mint oil. Or you can try this product.. It works pretty good. I have never done cost/benefit analysis as to whether its cheaper to do this or just spend money on new blades. But it does give you a much smoother shave. I only shave once every 3 or 4 days anyway so its no big deal.

Pick up some Everclear at the liquor store. That stuff is 95% alcohol.

I may be wrong, but it sure seems like:

  • Most folks shave with a Mach 3
  • Those blades are titanium
  • Titanium won't rust
  • Storign the blade in oil or alcohol won't do a thing

No, it's 95 proof... which is 47.5 % alcohol.

No, you've all got it backwards.....

I store my razor blades in alcohol and it makes the alcohol last much longer. I'm too scared of swallowing a blade!

When do you determine your razor is done? I usually decide when it starts to hurt when I shave.

Of course titanium won't rust, it's not iron. Only iron really rusts, what with rust referring to iron oxide.

Some kind of oil would be better than alcohol I wouldn't expect, then there's not really anything for the blade to react with. Highly reactive metals are kept in alcohol because it stops anything getting to them they might react with, such as water or oxygen in the air.

huh?
What did you say or mean?
Look, my point is, titanium will not oxidies, so storing it in oil or alcohol is pointless.

i am fairly sure that mach 3 cartridges (or any razors, for that matter) are not made out of titanium.

here is the link that explains how razor guard works

i've tried it before... it worked ok, but it got really dirty easily (something about not washing the razor, i think, it was a while ago), so i went back to exposing it to the elements but trying to at least dry it off after i used it.
