What happen to storagereview.com ? I haven't been them in well over a year and decided to go back there but nothing much has changed. Remember when they use to have the best hard drive reviews. I know they did consider shutting down once but thankfully did not. It seems like a ghost town over there. They did have a great niche on hard drive reviews though!

Don't know, it just faded into oblivion. I think that actually happened to a lot of niche review websites. I used to visit storagereview regularly, not anymore. I also used to visit CD-RW websites cdrlabs, cdrinfo and cdrfreaks, but not anymore. Although with CD/DVD-RW reviews it's probably due to the fact that LiteOn took over most of the optical market leaving only two players - LiteOn and Nec and because HDD storage has become so cheap it's more convenient to buy another HDD rather than deal with DVDs. Silentpcreview is also kind of empty. It's not ghost town yet, but forums are definitely not as active as they once were. I suppose I shouldn't be surprised either because 5 years ago it was very hard to silence your computer, it's much easier now with aftermarket coolers and 5400rpm hard drives. The only websites still doing good are "all-around" websites that review anything that comes their way. Downside is that it usually affects article quality.

I would like to see Big Buck Hunter of Storage review.com do something. He is one damn smart guy. Maybe an "all things SSD" type of site? I think he sort of overtook SR but it was too late to save it. He seemed to know MUCH about storage/servers etc. I went there simply for his posts for a long time after the heydey.

There are a lot of review sites/hardware forums [that i used to visit] that have pretty much died down, & seemingly very few that have gotten a lot bigger.

The thing i don't get is where the people are going though, as while i can understand social forums dying off in favor of Facebook & other social sites, i don't get where hardware enthusiasts are going instead?

I don't think they ever recovered from their data loss (yeah, a "storage" site w/o a backup) and just kind of lingered for a long time.

Various specialty sites have either lost readership or never grew to critical mass.

You would think that with all of the buzz now around SSDs, that StorageReview would be on top of that all. But it looks like they're not capitalizing on that trend. So sad. I've been an SR member for years too.
