Looks like a very good drive.

STR are nearly equal to those of WD's 2000JB, the difference comes from the JB's higher platter density I suppose, but it's neglible.
Seek and write times are lower though, enough to offset the slight STR disadvantage IMO.

Here in Sweden the 180 GB version is cheaper than WD's 1800JB.
In fact it's cheaper than the 1800BB as well.

Our first evaluation sample turned in a rather nasty-looking sawtooth transfer rate graph. The dips are similar to those experienced while running the transfer rate test with a stray background test running; even so, this drive was tested in conditions identical to that of all others. A second sample rectified the problem. Our first unit was likely defective.

Ouch. Looks typical for IBM though. :|

No thanks, I'll stick with SCSI since it's MY DATA. 🙂

Cheers!

This is what I mean about the price they would have to practically give this drive away for most everyone here to purchase it!

I'll have no problem picking it up.

The 75GXP was years ago, at one time WD Caviars were the least reliable drives you could get your hands on, Fujitsu recently had a batch of 300.000 drives where the failure rate was around or over 50%, but I wouldn't mind picking up either, everyone does something wrong sooner or later.

The 60GXP, and 120GXP were both fine lines of drives, and I see no reason why the 180GXP should be any worse.

WHAT?! Logical purchasing decisions instead of fanboyism? I can't believe you've made it to over 5000 posts without being run out of town, Sunner.
