Hello all, I am currently running a Westerd Digital sata drive and i ran out of storage on it today. Im at somewhere like 78 gigs so i definatly need a new storage system. Ive been doing a lot of dvd ripping lately and this is why my storage has finally caught up with me. What would be the best solution? A new hard drive completely? Or set up a raid? Or what? I do play a lot of games, and have quite a library of movies, music, and photos. So basically should i set up a raid or just buy one big drive? What are the different types of raid set ups. I know that raid 0/1 seem to be the most common but what does this mean? Can i run my OS, games, and a couple important applications on one drive then setup another for storage? Sorry guys for the long post and thanks inadvance for the help.

*EDIT*

System Specs:
AMD 3500+
MSI K8N Neo 2 Plat
BFG 6800 Ultra
WD 80 gb sata

Why not just get a second HD?
Raid is bad for storage... Well raid 0 is...

Buy a large drive for storage and have the rest of the stuff on the main drive...

Yeah, if it's for storage, just add another hard drive, as big as you can afford baby.

Don't worry about RAID at all.

how would this work? When I save or instal something do i just direct it to either drive? And when i want to transfer existing files on my original drive to the new one, do i just drag and drop into the drive? Do the drives have to be compatible?

Drag and drop
Hook it up, right click my computer, go to manage, disk management and make a new partition (on the new drive). Bing Bang boom!

Yeah just get another drive. It will show up as a new drive letter, probably D: . Might be easiest to transfer all your data to the new drive so you have room on the C: drive to install additional applications.

Remember to backup your data too. If it's important, wouldn't hurt to leave it on both drives until the new one's been running for a few days in case the new drive bites the dust.

Ok Thanks fellows.

*EDIT*

One last thing, can someone explain the different raid settings and what the majority of users use raid for.
